How it works
Who carried?
We do the math.
Every verdict comes from replaying your game and watching your team's chance to win go up and down. Whoever moved it gets the credit. Or the blame.
In four steps
1Replay the game
Riot keeps a timeline of every match: every kill, tower, dragon, Baron and death, plus everyone's gold and XP each minute. We replay it from the first second to the nexus.
2Win chance, every moment
At each moment, a model trained on thousands of real ranked games estimates how likely your team is to win from that exact position.
3Credit every swing
When the win chance moves, the players who moved it get the credit: the killer and the assisters, the player who died, whoever was at the objective. A fed carry dying costs more than a support.
4Add it up
Each player's credits add up to their WPA. Your slice of your team's total is your share of the win, or of the loss. That's what the headline is about.
An example game
16:12 First blood: +4% win chance, credited to you (the kill) and your jungler (the assist).
214:30 Dragon: +4% win chance, split between the players who were there.
322:05 You get caught and die: −10% win chance, on you, and more because you were the fed one.
427:40 Baron: +21% win chance, your duo (the smite) and everyone in the fight.
An example game, not a real match.
Notice what counts: when a play happened, not only what it was. A kill that wins the Baron fight is worth far more than one after the game was already decided. That's why a 12/2 score line doesn't automatically mean you carried.
What the numbers mean
- WPA
- Win Probability Added: how much a player's plays moved the team's chance to win, in percentage points. +30% WPA means their plays added up to 30 points of win chance.
- Share of the win
- A player's slice of everything that pushed the game toward the win. In a loss it's the share of the loss: their slice of everything that pushed it toward losing.
- Carried / Sold
- 40% or more of the win and you carried. 40% or more of the loss and you sold. Below that, it's a team effort or a team collapse.
- Team collapse
- Nobody owned the loss alone, but with friends in the game we still say who in your group took more of the blame (or did more of the work, for a team effort).
- Role grade
- A separate S-to-D grade for how a player did compared with others in the same role and rank, like Emerald mid laners: farm, damage, deaths, vision and more.
- Receipts
- The biggest swings of the game, with timestamps, so you can check the verdict yourself.
What it can't see
- Cooldowns: whether Flash or an ultimate was up. Riot's match data doesn't include them.
- Comms and shotcalling. The jungler who called the Baron gets nothing for the call.
- Exact positions between snapshots. Riot records where everyone is once a minute.
- Whether you were tilted, lagging, or playing with one hand on your food.
So take it as an argument settler, not a court ruling. It's built for fun, and for the group chat.
